Juicy News

After confessing about my overeating habits and writing of my plans to take it easy with the nuts, it’s time for an update.

My resolution to reduce the amounts of nuts in my diet went well. For a couple of weeks there, I enjoyed beautiful fruit, smoothies, salads with only a splash of oil and less than a handful of nuts each day – mainly Brazil Nuts. I felt amazing!

On a personal level, too. I can honestly say I experienced the most amazing 10 days of my life. With each event unfolding, lifting me to higher, more magical, more exciting grounds. Interactions with beautiful people. Interactions with my beautiful self. Interactions with nature. One blissful moment after the other!

After those 10 days… A plateau of ordinary plain routine. Which wasn’t that bad, not at all!

However a few days later a few uninvited events came up my way. And the first event had me back for a binge.

I was experimenting in the kitchen for my next cooking class and instead of discarding the leftovers or giving them away to friends and neighbours – I ate mostly everything myself. I couldn’t sleep as I was so bloated. And that happened for two consecutive days!

At the end of that second day I decided I want to “reset” my mind and body. Everything that I stuffed into myself within those 48 hours – it all needs to come out.

And so I decided to start a JUICE FAST.

The idea of a juice fast is that you only drink FRESHLY SQUEEZED juices (not anything bottled please!) and water. All the nutrients, namely vitamins and minerals, are condensed into the liquid form of vegetables and fruit, excluding the fibres. Which means you get your nutrients however at the same time your digestion system gets some rest.

If you make sure you drink plenty of juices, you will most probably provide your body’s caloric need as well, and that’s why some people refer to it as a juice FEAST.

The tricky part, however, is with going to the toilet. See, for most of us, the addition of new fibre into the digestion tract triggers bowl movement, and whilst juicing can provide you most all the nutrients you need, it doesn’t trigger doing your number 2’s… And as the juice and water help tremendously with flushing toxins out of the body, it is highly recommended to supplement the juice fast with some external help so you could, well, poo.

I decided that I wanted to try the colonics way.

I booked myself in for three colonics during the course of 5 days.

I wanted all those things I ate on my last binge to be flushed off my system!

I felt like there’s a blockage and it needs to be released.

The colonics where the best thing I could have done to myself, really! I decided to go for a clinic that was recommended to me by a friend and was also pretty close to home. BODA. The clinic is beautiful, the owners are pretty much into raw food themselves so we shared a lot of information and I felt so supported and nurtured. Which is ultra important when going to a treatment that can sometimes be very confronting and/or uncomfortable.

And how was my week?

Masticating JuicerCentrifugal JuicerMonday – my first day of juicing - was good. I enjoyed the juicing. I'm using my masticating juicer which is slightly slower than the more common centrifugal juicer, however the juice's quality is far superior so it's worth it!

I had my first colonic in the evening which was a weird experience. Embarrassing at first, painful at times, but all in all, not too bad. I was happy to know I’m getting rid of whatever I was holding on to.

Second day of juicing went pretty well. I was juicing for about an hour in the morning to get my juice supply for the day… However in the evening I really felt like biting into an apple. I decided I should do that – one green apple to support my fast, and tomorrow I’ll be back to only juices.

However Wednesday morning came and I slept in! Some people report having tons of energy on a juice fast – clearly that was not the case for me. I barely got myself out of bed in time for work, headache starts to kick in (detoxing effect perhaps?) no time to juice anything! I grabbed a few green apples with me and thought to myself that 2 days of juice fast were probably enough for me. From work I rushed to my 2nd colonic – and well… I would love to share some more about what I experienced there but it will probably be too gruesome to discuss here. Let’s just say the release was HUGE. I definitely let go of a lot more than just a few binged-on nuts… Quite a lot of pressure and blockages came to an end. It was quite shocking – even the therapist agreed. A lot more than your typical release, apparently. Thus I decided to try and extend my juice fast as I got really curious as to what will come about during the 3rd colonic.

I drank another juice on Wednesday night, then on Thursday I was again juicing. And did allow myself to have two apples at night time. Still a bit tired and headache-y.

Friday – which is today – I got up very early, feeling refreshed, juiced and had the third colonic which felt great! Still a lot released, but the discomfort on my behalf was not too bad at all. By the end of the session I felt so empty, like I have never felt in my life… AWESOME!

Now back home, had two more green apples and that’s it for today.

Hoping that tomorrow will be nice and smooth, getting back to a normal eating routine. Hoping that binges will be a thing of the past. Or at least a rare occasion that sometimes cloud my crystal clear eating patterns.

I can’t say I recommend juice fasting, or colonics, to everyone. As in everything else in life I believe it’s a personal preference and also a matter of timing. I loved this week’s experience because I was ready for it, I made sure it didn’t feel like a struggle, and I accepted what ever happened.

Do you feel like giving it a try? Go ahead! Does it sound like a tough challenge you need to conquer? Maybe you’re not ready yet…

Heya! Great info maya! Yeah colon flush, for real!
I use an enema bag, which holds a couple litres of water.
And follow isntructions from quickfasting.com
(free online book about extended water fasts)
http://quickfasting.com/how_to_take_an_enema.html

Absolute MUST for water fasts, havent done an extended juice fast before... but i can imagine its the same with liquid fasts like you say.

On day 5 id find myself getting up and having to lie back down with instant dizzy spells and intense debilitating anxiety-like discomfort over my body.....couldnt even focus on watching a video.. dragged myself to the bathroom for an Enema Bag session... got up, moved around, stood on my head, did some nauli.... (really hard to hold in at first just btw) ... then flush and INSTANT release for a clear peaceful feeling to emerge over my body.

My body still deeply desired slow restful activity... I wasnt exactly bouncing off the walls... but now a peaceful tranquility replaced the kinesthetic anxiety and reading a book became a pleasant way to spend my morning. =]

Enema bags that allow enough water to reach right to where colon meets small intestine starting on the left side, then back, then laying and filling while on right side.

Massaging stomach, and having a bowel movement..

From my experience, MASSIVE benefits during liquid fasts =)

Im with you on the "resetting", both mind and body ;)
If you find a supportive therapist, that you feel trust with, then you have nothing to fear when going for your session. I found them to be gentle, respectful, intuitive, supportive and totally "on my side" at Boda. It REALLY makes a difference to your release, and I am so happy that you had such a positive experience.
Sure, having a tube put in your "you know where" might be bit uncomfortable or embarrassing at first, but, plenty of things in life are.
A lot of people are strongly for or against them, but for me they are a gift to my body. Don't knock it till you tried it x
