Raw in Nature
Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2:45PM I went bush for a few days. I really needed some time to realign with myself and with the forces that called me on my latest journey. And in nature I find it easier for me to keep still, to listen to my inner wisdom, to be quiet, simply to be.
I was going on a Nature Immersion with David Styles who’s purpose in life is to help people “Find their true nature in nature” so I knew I will be getting so much out of this adventure. It is inspiring to go into the bush in the company of someone who has an intrinsic connection to Spirit. It allowed me to be open and receptive to everything around me. I was able to tap into this innocence that is Life. I connected with the trees, with the birds, with the wind, with the stars… And found my centre once more. I found the focus and the meaning that escaped me while I got a little too occupied starting my own business…
And while I knew that I will get so much out of the experience, I wanted to offer something in return. And had no clue what to give!
Then David started to show interest in raw food… All of a sudden, on the morning of our departure, he told me he wanted to go raw with me for our trip together. I got even more excited! Not only was I going to spend time in nature, now I’m on a mission to create delicious food for the both of us!
So this is what I packed up for our trip:
Tons of organic fruit and vegetables to nibble on throughout the day;
For breakfast I loaded some dehydrated sprouted buckwheat, which I combined with coconut flakes, raw cacao nibs, Goji berries, Incan berries, dried figs and some activated almonds and walnuts…
I didn’t forget to take some yummy raw chocolate bars – I remember when I first went raw I had one bar every day! Just to help me feel like I’m not missing out on anything… LOL. I got 4 bars and we ate them all within the first couple of days… Our favourite was the Goji and Camu Camu chocolate bar from Loving Earth. So good!
I had a few raw bread slices that found themselves in the bag alongside with some organic tahini (not raw – however still very very nutritious!) and a couple of raw burgers, leftovers from my last event at Ruby’s Place.
And off we go!
The experience was so much more then I could ever hoped for.
With the guidance of David, the peace within me was found in no time at all. This blissful feeling that is accompanying me ALL THE TIME, that throughout my daily routine I’m finding myself too busy to tap into. And I have no doubt that the raw food diet helped me tremendously in connecting to that true essence. A sense of absolute TRUST and BEAUTY.
I also enjoyed observing from up close the effects of a raw food diet on someone else. Teaching him a little of what I know. And although I couldn’t indulge David with some of the more interesting raw food that I normally provide others with (like raw Lasagne… and cakes…), it was so rewarding to feed him with satisfying salads for dinner, watching him enjoy the most basic ingredients and flavours that nature is providing us with. My favourite salad was made of: corn (if you never tried FRESH raw sweet corn, it’s the best season for it – please do yourself a favour and try it NOW!), parsley, cos lettuce, granny smith apple, chopped up Brazil nuts, tomato, tossed with some stone ground tahini, lemon juice and a tiny bit of sea-salt. Delicious!
Now I’m back. Lots of things have changed while I was away. New challenges to face.
Mainly finding a venue for a Raw Food café (details to follow shortly!)
The bliss is still with me… I am completely empowered to rise to the challenges and meet them. I am loving my life more than ever.
The impact of a few days in nature can do that to you…
Do yourself a favour and spend as much time as you can in nature – I am definitely going to do so as often as I can!
And what a great compliment it was to receive a text message from David the other day: “Hey Maya, thanks for opening up this raw food diet for me. I’ll definitely be integrating it into my diet.”
This is the best reward I could ever get! One more person joining the Raw revolution… Only 6.7 Billion to go! ;)

Ah Maya, if I had the time to visit the big nature around us... in the meantime I immerse myself in the back yard amongst the basil plants gone to seed and bees humming around them, dragon flies, butterfilies and little frogs at night. A mini nature reserve to sink into.
