The Most Important Thing in Life is...

So what is the most important thing in life?

This is a question that you need to know the answer to. Do you?

There’s no right or wrong answer. Everyone has different values, different priorities, and different views on life. And they also change through the course of one’s lifetime, what used to be the most important thing for me 10 years ago might not be as important now.

However I strongly believe you should always know the answer to this question. If I was to wake you up in the middle of the night ask you: “What is the most important thing in life?” will you be able to answer me quickly, without hesitation?

If you’re not sure, maybe it’s time you give it a little thought.

If you never thought about it, take your time! Don’t rush for an answer. Think of a few possibilities before you realise which one is the most dominant, the most significant and the one that is closest to your heart. For me, it took a good 3 days to come to the conclusion. And when I did (that was probably about 4 years ago), the answer seemed so simple, so true, resonated with me to a degree that I can’t imagine how it could ever change… It hasn’t so far J

These days I could give you my answer with a blink of the eye, I don’t need to think about it anymore. (If you’re curious, I’ll tell you what it is at the end of this blog post)

It accompanies EVERYTHING I do in my life. Whenever there’s an obstacle, or an experience in my life I’m not so sure about, I’m examining if and how it relates to my “most important” goal. Especially when it seems like I’m facing some conflict, it is easier to make a decision if I remind myself what is most important to me.

Example.

Let’s pretend I need to choose between two jobs: one that pays me a lot of money and it includes sitting in front of the computer for long hours, which I know is causing me some pain and long-term damage to my hips and shoulders. The second job pays a lot less however it is in a café that serves healthy food and it involves a lot of moving around, a lot of face to face interactions with customers. What shall I choose?

That depends on what is the most important thing for me:

If the most important thing for me is my health, I would probably choose the second job. If the most important thing for me is supporting a family, there’s a good chance I’ll prefer the first option.

Now you could argue and say “but how can you support your family if you’re not healthy?” and this is exactly my point. Both issues are important, the question is, which one is MORE important? Will you feel more comfortable having perfect health and not-so-perfect family life? Or would you rather have a most supporting-amazing family and less-then-great health?

This understanding, of what is MORE important for YOU, will help you make a decision.

So what is the most important thing in life for me?

I have to say it’s PERSONAL GROWTH. This has been the first thing in my priority list for quite a few years now, and my life’s choices are reflecting this.

Now let me ask you again – what is the most important thing in YOUR life?

Take a few days, if you have to, and get back to me on this one!

For me the most important thing is:
"Strengthening connections with all life, energy and every part of our existence."
Personal growth is a significant part of this, as is health and family.

Ahh most important aspect of my life would have to be "Getting as close as possible to the connection our pre-electricity ancestors had with nature!"
Along with "Connecting face-to-face with like-minded people and living as stress-free and healthfully as possible!" =D
Greatly inspiring post Maya! =D
