Traffic Lights Breakfast
Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 4:25PM This past week was quite dark and rainy here in Sydney, and I felt like creating a source of bright colourful contrast that would be a delight to look at...
And as my dear beloved is often talking about traffic flow and roads efficiency, I felt inspired to create this version of a breakfast smoothie. And share the recipe with you:
Tri-Colour SmoothieIt's imperative for all three layers to have a similar consistency - which should be pretty thick AND to pour the layers carefully on top of each other.
I started by juicing 6 small apples (I buy the "juicing" labeled apples, which means they don't look as nice but they are still perfectly yummi - awsome for juicing!) with a little bit of fresh ginger.
For each of the layers I blended -
Green layer:
1-2 bananas
1/2 cup fresh apple-ginger juice
3 dates
a lot of green leaves (I used a mix of mint, mizuna and kale)
Yellow layer:
1-2 bananas
1/2 cup fresh apple-ginger juice
Juice of 2 carrots
2 oranges, peeled
3 dates
Red Layer:
1-2 bananas
5 medium-sized strawberries (green parts removed)
Juice of 1/2 small beetroot
1/2 cup apple-ginger juice
3 dates
That was enough for 3 rather large portions - perfect for sharing with Oliver and Catherine.
Happy breakfast!
